Integrating intelligent building management systems to optimize energy use across 5 distant campuses, cutting CO₂ by ~42 tonnes annually.
Microsoft is one of the largest multinational tech companies in the world, with headquarters in Washington USA, operations and subsidiaries in >120 countries, and >168,000 employees worldwide. It develops, manufactures, licenses, supports, and sells computer software, consumer electronics, personal computers, and related services.
Microsoft enables digital transformation for the era of an intelligent cloud and an intelligent edge.
Microsoft is committed to being carbon negative by 2030.
To that end, Microsoft aims to continuously reduce its buildings’ energy consumption by 2% each year. It is also targeting to improve employees’ electric vehicle (EV) charging experience and office environment quality, as part of an initiative to encourage EV usage to reduce carbon emissions.
To meet these objectives, Microsoft knew it needed innovative technologies and smart building solutions, in additional to its own innovative capabilities
Univers implemented a smart building solution which integrates various assets, including smart meters, building management systems, energy storage systems, EV charging stations, HVAC systems, and solar PVs, and indoor environmental quality sensors. It allowed centralized data management across geographically distant locations.
Reduction in energy mgmt/year
Microsoft’s distributed energy storage systems became more flexible and resilient, with scalable installations of additional charging stations, minimizing the need for additional investments and reducing transformation costs.
Campuses connected
Implemented a smart building solution built on the EnOS™ platform across 5 Microsoft campuses in China and Hong Kong.
Optimized Building Comfort
With Digital Twin technology, Univers developed an intelligent indoor environmental quality management system which provides indoor air quality condition analysis, thermal comfort analysis and automated device alerts. As a result, the balance between building comfort and energy consumption can be optimized.
Enhanced EV Charging Experience
Advanced analytics and AI in the connected energy management system improved Microsoft’s EV charging experience, by analyzing data and identifying energy arbitrage opportunities.
