Located in Kompong Chhnang Province, the 90 MW solar PV + 18 MW/18 MWh BESS facility marks a milestone in Southeast Asia’s energy transition, leveraging Univers’ cutting-edge Power Plant Controller (PPC) and SCADA platform to deliver grid stability and optimize energy output.
The hybrid plant addresses the nation’s growing energy demands while tackling the intermittency challenges of solar power. With Cambodia’s grid requiring stable, dispatchable power, the project combines 90 MW of solar generation with a 18 MW BESS to ensure continuous energy supply during peak demand and low solar irradiation periods. Univers’ PPC and SCADA systems were selected for their proven ability to harmonize PV and storage operations, with PV Smoothing emerging as a standout feature.
Grid Stability and PV Intermittency
Cambodia’s grid infrastructure required seamless integration of solar generation and storage to mitigate fluctuations. Univers’ PPC employs dynamic algorithms to balance real-time power distribution between PV and BESS, ensuring compliance with local grid codes for consistent output. The PV Smoothing functionality minimizes output variability by intelligently adjusting battery charging/discharging power, smoothing solar generation dips caused by cloud cover or sunset transitions.
