EnOS™ Edge enabled CCC to offer clean EV charging solution and generate new revenue from solar energy sales.
Equans is a world leader in energy & services sector, with annual revenues of ~€19bn, nearly 90k employees and almost 800k projects globally. One of their specialties is energy production and renewable solutions.
They are contractors for Cambridgeshire County Council.
With support from the EU Regional Development fund, Cambridgeshire County Council (CCC) are installing solar + EV chargers at 2 park and ride facilities in their council, with a smart grid managing generation, consumption & grid interaction. CCC are also developing a 30MW solar park powering a district heating scheme at Swaffham Prior village.
Grid and PPA constraints posed a significant issue, as limited grid capacity made it difficult to absorb the clean energy generated onsite and manage EV charging demands, alongside complexities in managing power purchase agreements (PPAs).
Additionally, there was a knowledge gap regarding microgrid systems, particularly in designing and managing these systems due to the introduction of new technologies.
The council also encountered complex integration challenges, specifically in effectively integrating solar energy generation, EV charging consumption, and battery storage.
Univers supplied automated asset control, on-site communications infrastructure, monitoring dashboard and expertise.
