Project Overview

Univers has deployed its cutting-edge Power Plant Controller and SCADA systems to optimize a pioneering solar-plus-BESS project in Indonesia. This initiative marks a critical step in Indonesia’s transition to renewable energy, combining 50 MW of solar PV with a 14 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) to deliver reliable, dispatchable clean energy to the grid. The site is projected to generate approximately 93 GWh of renewable energy annually, providing a large amount of green electricity for Nusantara, Indonesia’s future capital.

Challenges

Grid Stability: Indonesia’s grid required seamless integration of intermittent solar power and rapid-response BESS to maintain voltage and frequency stability. 

Operational Complexity: Coordinating solar generation, battery storage, and grid compliance demanded a unified control system. 

System integration: Working seamlessly with various OEM devices and systems with different communication protocols. 

Univers' Solution

Hybrid Power Plant Controller for Collaborative Control

Univers’ PPC utilizes advanced PV smoothing algorithm, enabling dynamic power modulation to stabilize solar generation fluctuations. The system manages state-of-charge (SOC) balancing, frequency response, and voltage response, aligning with PLN’s grid requirements.

PV and BESS Energy Management System (EMS)

The PV and BESS EMS automatically completes active power and reactive power commands from the Hybrid PPC or manual input. It continuously monitors the status of all inverters and reasonably allocates power to different inverters using advanced ramp rate control algorithms.

SCADA System for Hybrid Monitoring and Control:  

Univers’ SCADA platform aggregates real-time data from 120,000+ solar panels and BESS units, providing operators with granular visibility into plant performance. Features include panoramic monitoring, maintenance alerts, data analysis and automated reporting for effective operation.

Achieved highly reliable uptime with seamless solar-BESS synchronization, enhancing grid stability in remote regions.  

Operational Efficiency

The unified system, featuring rich functionality, ensures optimal plant performance through key performance indicators (KPIs), facilitating comprehensive evaluation and continuous asset improvement.

Emission Reductions

Offset 104,000 tons of CO₂ annually, supporting Indonesia’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).

Looking Ahead

The success of this project underscores Univers’ leadership in hybrid energy systems. Future phases may expand BESS capacity and integrate additional renewables, further solidifying Indonesia’s role in the global clean energy landscape.
